Artist's Statement
Clive's work thrives on feelings of harmony, optimism, tranquillity and calm; qualities which in today's world are often in short supply. Sometimes there is underlying gentle sense of humour in the paintings.
These feelings are visualised in a quirky parallel world of sunsets, dawns, tranquil seascapes, landscapes and semi-abstracts.
The parallel world is characterised by curved decorative shapes and elegantly odd people and sometimes animals. Quirky people and romantic couples (inspired by his wife) often appear in the pictures.
Clive can go “anywhere “ in the style of his imagined world , famous places from our real world can be visited.
Is there an implied narrative in the paintings? Possibly there is, but that is for the viewer to decide.
